Concerto competition for soloists
We would like to offer the opportunity for an outstanding student of the festival to play an entire concerto with a chamber orchestra/group at our final concert on the 4th of August.
Opera aria competition for singers
For singers, there will be a separate aria competition. The winner can choose any aria from the baroque or classical period to be performed at the final concert on the 4th of August. The aria will be accompanied by the chamber orchestra of our festival.
Composers’ competition
One composition completed over the period of the festival will be premiered at our gala concert played by musicians from the Altalena Ensemble. We are expecting solo works, duos or trios to enter our competition.
Conductors’ competition
The winner of the conductors’ competition will have the chance to conduct one work at our final concert.
The number of people in the chamber orchestra will be confirmed after the application deadline is passed.
Date for competition rounds: 29th and 30th of July
The competition rounds will be open to the public.
The gala concert for the winners will take place on the 4th of August at 8 pm . This will be the official closing ceremony of the Altalena Music festival.

A piece composed/completed over the festival period will be premiered at our gala concert. Maximum length: 15 minutes
Programme for the competitions rounds (selection for the gala concert):
– Instrumentalists: 1st and 2nd movement of your chosen work
– Singers: any Mozart aria and any Schubert or Schumann Lied
– Conductors: any movements of the following Beethoven
symphonies: Op. 21, Op. 36, Op. 55
– Composers: written or completed works during the festival shall
be submitted (online or printed sheet music) by the 30th of July.
A jury made of three professionalists will evaluate the
compositions.
All competition rounds will be accompanied by piano. (There can be an exception for the movements of the 2nd symphony by Beethoven for the conductor’s preselection: this will be played by a trio of the Altalena Ensemble.)
